Southeast Ohio Welcome's You to this Year's
Hey EarthFirsters!! Talk with your local groups and get ready to tell everyone why your hometown should host next year's Round River Rendevous! RONDY CELL PHONE: 740-590-5219 Get yourself to McArthur, OH in Vinton County. The center of McArthur is the intersection of SR 93 North/South and US 50 East/West in the southeast corner of Ohio. Head west out of McArthur on Route 50.Pass the high school on the left (if heading west). (If heading east, you have gone too far if you get to the town of McArthur) Just outside of town, turn right onto Peacock Rd. Peacock is a gravel township road. Follow it about 1.5 miles to where it dead ends at a gate. Park well off the road in the grass at the top of the hill. Follow signs to campsite Things to remember: (Please read over this carefully before coming) 1. It is a 35 minute hike to the campsite from the parking area. One section of the trail is fairly steep and washed out. Wear the right shoes and be prepared to make several trips. 2. VERY IMPORTANT: Please follow the signs carefully for the first part of the hike past the parking area. The trail is an abandoned township road and we only have permission to be on that road, not any other part of the surrounding property. The transition will be clearly marked. 3. People with limited mobility or large amounts of food for the kitchen or other materials can be driven directly to the site for drop off only, but must make arrangements by calling the Rondy cell phone prior to arrival. 4. McArthur is in the middle of one of the poorest counties in Ohio. If at all possible, your money for supplies is best spent in this community rather than in Chillicothe, Logan, Athens or Jackson – all of which have Wal-Marts and other big chain stores for your shopping pleasure. That said, there are limited options for shopping in McArthur. You won’t find a health food store or camping supplies. 5. Your cell phone will not work as you are driving into the area and will not work at most places in the woods. It will work in the parking area at the site and at the center of camp. 6. “Bathing suit required” swimming is available a short drive from the site at Lake Hope State Park. There are 2 ponds in an old reclaimed strip mine at the site. 7. There are no showers, composting toilets or indoor shelters. We will have cooking and drinking water available, tarped areas for workshops and pit toilets. 8. This is not wilderness country. You might see neighbors, people on 4-wheelers and possibly even hunters at any point during the week. They have free reign (without permission) on the property we are using at all other times and may wonder what you are doing there. Kindly explain that there is an event happening on private property the boundaries of which will be clearly marked with colored tape. 9. Welcome to Ohio!! We’ll see you at camp. What to Bring: 1 gallon or 2 of drinking water toilet paper lighter/matches flashlight (it will be just past the new moon so fairly dark) tent sleeping bag snacks FOOD for the kitchen and yourself coffee if you drink it rain gear stories, instruments, songs, etc. multi-tool a friend DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG!! |
